Curriculum Support, Music Learning, Arts Classes

CMA is funded to act as a Music Hub providing CPD for schools in a similar way to Maths and English Hubs. We support other art forms through our Arts Council Place Partnership funding. Our FREE CPD courses for teachers are devised in partnership with, and delivered using the expertise of, teachers in lead schools, including Riddlesdown Collegiate.

Support is also available through the This is Croydon Schools Programme development journey and our FREE Schools Support Hub including the School Music Development Plan guidance. 

CMA classroom programmes include music and performing arts across Key Stage 1 and music incorporating instrumental learning across Key Stage 2. These can be taught by CMA or school staff using CMA’s Scheme or Work and Exemplar Resources. From September 2024 we have funding to provide FREE instruments for classroom instrumental learning programmes across Key Stages 2 and 3.

Instrumental and vocal tuition is available for all orchestral and band instruments, keyboard, piano, guitar, drum kit, music production and voice, ranging from beginner level building on your young musicians’ curriculum learning through to university and music college entrance. CMA has flexible delivery models to meet the needs of schools.

Music and arts classes are available from Year 3 onwards, with introductory offers for musicians and artists recommended by schools.

 

We provide opportunities for children and young people which complement school provision. Using public funding we are able to make this financially accessible to all:

Schools can refer their young artists from Key Stage 2 and 3 who show skill, interest or a development need to our blended learning young artists programme for drama, dance and music production and our hybrid programme for visual arts. These are FREE for Pupil Premium students.

Schools can refer their young musicians to our CMA Centres with groups covering all styles of music and all levels, including our Star Classes for learning any instruments not taught at school.

Schools can refer students from Key Stages 4 and 5 to our Young Leaders group. We offer advocacy and leadership training and students can represent their school and feed into Croydon-wide debate about culture and the arts for young people. 

Schools can use the learning students gain from our programmes to contribute to their school outcomes and as evidence for Ofsted.
