Young Producers & Youth Advocates

Young Producers

  • Age range: 16-25

  • Paid and volunteer roles

  • £100 per day for up to 20 days

During Croydon’s London Borough of Culture (LBOC) year we  launched a new Arts Council-funded Young Producers programme for 16 to 25 year old's who live, work or are educated in Croydon. The roles will cover heritage, architecture and exhibition projects as well as performance events. There are paid placements attracting a fee of £100 per day for up to 20 days, and shorter work experience opportunities where expenses will be paid.

We are using Digital Badges to provide Young Producers with evidence of their learning through the programme. Digital Badges recognise learning, achievement, and accomplishment outside of formal accredited learning and can be part of their CV.

To help young people learn more about different roles in the creative industries, with BirdGang we have created this series of videos.

Youth Advocates

  • Age range: 18-25

  • Paid role

  • £40 per session

The Culture Croydon Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is an opportunity for young people (Aged 18-25) to lead the way in speaking with local creatives about what it will take to make Croydon an accessible place for young artists to grow and express themselves fully.

As a Youth Advocate, you will be a leader working alongside other leaders, shaping a programme that finds how young people can hold the arts sector to account. Throughout the year, you will be invited to participate in conversations; partnerships; and training workshops that will give you the skills to speak for Croydon’s young artists. You will be asked to attend 4 sessions of the YAG over the next year (paid £40 per session) and create a sector-wide event (for which you will be paid to plan and carry out) that helps the arts industry in Croydon to develop the way it engages with young people.

The Culture Croydon Youth Advisory Group

The YAG is a careers-focused space facilitated by Katia Del Rio Smith (Borough of Culture Young Creative Lead; Co-Chair of Culture Croydon), with the support of Croydon’s Arts and Youth Community groups. We are a youth-led, skills-focused safe space for young people to speak about their hopes and concerns about the future of the arts in Croydon.

We:

  • Value young people for their time / respects the contribution of time and expertise and provides generous remuneration and shares skills.

  • Provide knowledge and signposting to various opportunities for experience, education and training in order to demystify the arts sector and improve access for young people.
