Early Years and Key Stage 1

Classroom Music

Early Years music is important for laying the foundation for children and young people being able to benefit most from music.  Based around play, children should be able to respond to, internalise and produce sounds, musical motifs, songs, chants and singing games.

Children’s exposure to music continues in Key Stage 1 through extending skills in singing and exploring the timbres of different percussion instruments, both tuned and untuned, to create and perform rhythmical musical motifs.  These can form accompaniments to songs or chants.
